Can you introduce yourself?

I’m Magali! I studied illustration at university, where I graduated last summer. Since then, I’ve been working as a freelance illustrator. I’m currently working on my first two picture books! When I’m not drawing, I love cycling around my city, getting lost in a book or writing newsletters.

How would you describe your creative world?

I love warm colors, playful details and illustrations that bring back happy memories. I think my creative world includes a great deal of my own memories and observations. That’s why I always carry my sketchbook with me, to capture moments I might otherwise have forgotten. My creative world doesn’t stop at drawing; it includes music, clothing, fabrics, food. It’s made up of all those little things that make me who I am.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I find inspiration all around me, in interactions and conversations with people, in the color combinations I notice while walking around (my tip: always take a quick photo if you see something that inspires you).

Bookshops are one of my favorite places to find inspiration. There are so many beautifully illustrated books, they never fail to inspire me.

How important is your interior to you?

I’m a real homebody. I need my own space where I feel calm and grounded. I buy most of my furniture second-hand, but I like to mix in more modern pieces, such as the PLI shelves, which add a touch of yellow.

Do you have a recent creative discovery to share with us?

I recently came across two first-edition books from Miroslav Šašek’s “This is…” series (Paris and London), in which he introduces readers to different cities through words and illustrations. These books date back to 1959 and are filled with charming drawings and distinctive observations. He was such a brilliant artist.
