What does TIPTOE look like through an artist’s eyes?

Constantly in search of inspiration, we gave artists carte blanche to reinterpret our pieces within their own worlds. A way to bring together two creative fields and discover TIPTOE from a new perspective. Meet Saturn, illustrator and rug maker.

Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Saturn, and I’m an artist based in Belfort. I mainly create illustrations and murals, but I also make rugs from time to time.

How would you define your creative world?

My world is mainly made up of simple geometric shapes and lots of color. I like to call it primitive art because my primary goal is to create visually appealing compositions. I’ve chosen not to convey any particular message through most of my visuals, because I like everyone to interpret them according to their own sensitivity. Still, there are symbols that often come back, such as hands or eyes. I often add a botanical dimension with palm trees or chains of leaves.

Where do you find inspiration day to day?

I spend quite a lot of time looking at images or videos with a distinctive aesthetic. When I draw, I don’t really use references. I do it instinctively, but I imagine I’m inspired by everything I see throughout the day. It might be architecture, the design of certain objects, the editing of certain videos and, of course, other painters and artists.

What place do you give to your home? What does it say about you?

My environment has a major influence on the quality of my work and my motivation. Recently I painted a mural in front of my desk, and it helps me get into a creative atmosphere as soon as I sit down. I care a lot about the way I show my creative process on Instagram.

Most of the time I work from home, so I spend a huge amount of time at my desk. I think having an environment I find aesthetically pleasing helps me stay organized when I draw. Plus, I often work at night, so when I turn on a small dim light with a bit of music, I feel motivated to settle into a long, quiet session.

Why did you choose the LOBO table for this project?

Tiptoe is a modern brand that creates clean-lined furniture with special attention to wood textures. That really speaks to me, as I’m quite sensitive to the design of objects. The LOBO table creates a contrast with my visuals, which are quite busy and very colorful, and sits perfectly alongside the rest of my workspace, which is rather understated. I still kept a little touch of whimsy with the Sunflower yellow table legs.

A recent creative discovery you’d like to share with us?

To stay with the theme, this year I discovered the work of Celia R. at “Studio Craiecraie”. It’s a studio specializing in interior architecture. Their work is also very colorful, with a touch of whimsy. For example, I really like the way they incorporate pops of neon color and play with different glass textures on certain panes. I’ll let you discover their work.
