Our decorating ideas for designing a kitchen island
1. Industrial-style kitchen island
An industrial-style kitchen island is perfect for giving your kitchen an urban look. Use raw materials such as metal, concrete, aged or untreated wood, or stainless steel to create an industrial look in your room.
Pair your kitchen island with metal and leather bar stools to complete the look.
2. Scandinavian-style kitchen island
Scandinavian style highlights natural materials and light colours. Choose a light wood kitchen island and minimalist decorative accessories.
This on-trend piece will fit effortlessly into your dining room or kitchen.
3. Kitchen island with sink
An integrated sink on a kitchen island or worktop is an excellent way to add functionality to your kitchen. You can prepare meals and wash food without having to go to the other end of the kitchen!
Choose a stainless steel sink for a modern touch and easy maintenance.
4. Kitchen island with hob
If you cook a lot, a hob on your kitchen island or worktop is a great idea! This layout gives you an extra cooking area while keeping you at the heart of the room, so you don’t miss the conversations between guests.
For parents, it also means keeping an eye on the children while they do their homework. Practical!
5. Modern kitchen island
A modern kitchen island is a perfect idea for contemporary-style kitchens. Use materials such as glass, marble and stainless steel to add a modern touch to your worktop.
Understated colors such as black or white are perfectly suited to a kitchen island.
6. Vintage kitchen island
A vintage kitchen island brings a retro, characterful touch to your dining room.
Our decorating ideas: opt for soft colors and distressed finishes, and use materials such as wood or stone to enhance the vintage, rustic look and bring authentic charm to your room.
7. Kitchen island with storage
A kitchen island with drawers, shelves or baskets offers additional storage space to keep your kitchen well organized.
For optimal use, it can be fitted with a stainless steel sink or a hob.
8. Tiled kitchen island
Use ceramic or stone tiles to cover the worktop of your kitchen island. This will add a touch of originality and texture to your kitchen, and above all make cleaning easier.
Our tip: echo the color of your kitchen splashback — very on-trend!
9. Large kitchen island
If you have a large kitchen, don’t hold back on the size of your kitchen island or worktop. A large island provides more workspace and can become an impressive focal point.
You can use the extra space to add storage or a table, or to create a separation between the kitchen dining area and the living room lounge area.
10. Small kitchen island
Even in a smaller kitchen, a compact kitchen island can be highly functional. Choose a smart design with built-in storage.
Tip: this piece is perfect for small spaces and helps create a harmonious separation between the kitchen and the living or dining area.
11. White and wood kitchen island
For a brighter, more streamlined look, choose a white kitchen island paired with natural wood elements. This will give your kitchen a Scandinavian feel.
You can use light wood to bring a sense of lightness to your room.
12. Black and wood kitchen island
A blend of elegant black and warm wood brings a sophisticated touch to your kitchen. You can use wood for the worktop or to clad your island. This combination is perfect for modern kitchens.
Our advice: create this color contrast between your furniture and the floor too, for an on-trend interior.
13. Bar table kitchen island
Choose a kitchen island with a raised section to turn it into a bar table in the kitchen. This creates an informal dining area, ideal for quick breakfasts or drinks with friends.
This layout is also perfect for small spaces!

If you have a large family or love entertaining guests, a kitchen island with a dining table is an excellent choice for bringing everyone together.
You can dine comfortably and have enough space to prepare your meals in the kitchen.

18. American-style kitchen island
Inspired by American kitchens, this kitchen island is usually spacious and offers plenty of room for cooking, dining, and entertaining.

Our recommendations for a custom-made tabletop
If you choose a custom-made tabletop, we recommend a wood finish (solid oak, birch, fir, raw wood, etc.) or plastic. However, we strongly advise against using brittle materials such as glass, stone or marble.
Our tips for your wooden tabletop:
- Recommended thickness: 20mm to 40mm
- Maximum thickness: 40mm
- Maximum size for 2 legs and 2 BRACKET : 180x100cm
- For a length over 180 cm, the thickness must be 4 cm and you need to add 2 legs per metre
Endless possibilities with TIPTOE table legs
The legs can also be used to support an existing piece of furniture or a tabletop extension. Create your custom furniture with TIPTOE legs!
Design it as an extension of your countertop to add extra storage, create a welcoming dining area, or build a larger cooking surface, by installing, for example, a stainless steel sink or a cooktop.
