Tiptoe by Ellis Tolsma
Can you introduce yourself?
Hello, my name is Ellis Tolsma. I’m a freelance illustrator based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. My world is joyful and graphic, inspired by children’s books, patterns, and old toys. I depict geometric shapes with bold color combinations and a touch of of retro feel. To accentuate it, I print most of my work using an old-fashioned riso printer. I also run a small risograph studio called Studio Misprint.
How would you describe your creative world?
My world is colorful and bright. Bringing joy to the world, making it more colorful and less monotonous, is what drives me. I believe it is essential to draw inspiration from what surrounds us. I am convinced that we all have an artist within us, ready to express itself as soon as we are given the opportunity.
How did this collaboration inspire you?
I was already inspired by Tiptoe well before our collaboration. I had noticed thetheir objects in the interiors of artists I admire, I have them I have always found their objects both versatile and conducive to creating a very personal world. I love browsing thrift shops, looking for unique pieces, vintage trinkets, or original furniture to bring into my home and my collection, which feed my inspiration. Illustrating Tiptoe objects was therefore a real pleasure for me!
Can you share a place where you feel good?
I feel really good where I live right now, especially in my garden. The sun is coming back, and the garden is really big and beautiful.
