TIPTOE by Agathe Marty
What does TIPTOE look like through the eyes of an artist?
Constantly searching for inspiration, we gave artists free rein to reinterpret our pieces through their own creative world. A way to bring together two creative fields and discover TIPTOE from a different perspective. Today, we’re taking you into the world of Agathe Marty, illustrator, independent pattern maker and photographer with a simple, colourful style that immerses us in a summery atmosphere. Portrait.
Hello Agathe, can you introduce yourself?
My name is Agathe Marty, I’m 29 years old and I live in the South of France. I’m an illustrator and pattern designer. After travelling and living in Australia for four and a half years, I returned to France in 2019, and that’s when I started working as a freelance illustrator.
How would you define your creative world?
My world is sunny, feminine and rather minimalist. I like playing with textures, lines and warm, soft colours. I work on portraits of women as much as lifestyle scenes or abstract illustrations. I don’t limit myself to one clearly defined style; I draw what inspires me in general.
Where do you find inspiration every day?
Mainly in my travels and the places I’d like to go. The small details of everyday life also inspire me a lot. I’m very observant of the shapes and colours around me. I like looking at the composition of the things that surround me every day: a dried flower in a vase, a half-closed shutter on a sunny façade, books on a shelf in an interior, decorative touches in people’s homes… I observe everything, everywhere, all the time.
What place do you give to your interior? What does it say about you?
I work from home, so my house—and my interior in particular—are important to me. I need to feel good in my cocoon so I can draw and work without growing tired of my surroundings. I like simple forms, textures, warm colors, and refined minimalism.
What is your vision of TIPTOE?
I really like the minimalism and functionality of TIPTOE pieces, with their subtle attention to lines and colors. They are practical pieces, but also aesthetically beautiful and easy to place in an interior.
What appealed to you about bringing the new NOD lamp into your world?
I love the lines of this lamp, its curves, and its timeless quality. It can fit into any interior, and the color selection is simply perfect! It was fairly easy to imagine it as an illustration; it perfectly matches the aesthetic I love to draw.
A recent creative discovery to share with us?
To stay in the world of the home, I’m an absolute fan of a ceramic tableware brand called POPOLO. Right now I’m very inspired by the work of Joan Miró, who needs no introduction, but whose work I recently rediscovered. I think his pieces are simply perfection. And finally, the American artist Calder, whose oils on canvas and lithographs are very inspiring.
A cool spot to share with visitors?
I don’t live in Bordeaux, but I love the city and go there very often for work and to visit friends and family. I recently spent a wonderful evening at Mazal, an Israeli restaurant where the atmosphere is incredible and the menu is an absolute delight!
