Plastic Beauty
An eco-responsible approach
TIPTOE’s mission is to offer durable furniture that is better designed and better produced. In line with these values, we worked for several months to develop this collection of recycled plastic tables and shelves, resolutely focused on the future of furniture. There is still a long way to go, but we firmly believe that changing our consumption habits also involves our industry, and we want to do our part to help move things forward!
Plastic around the world
In 2018, 359 million tonnes of plastic were produced worldwide. A record figure that raises concern, as more than a third of this plastic ends up in nature and only 9% is recycled. This situation is worrying because the material takes centuries to break down, with most plastics not being biodegradable.
Far from wanting to make anyone feel guilty, we would rather raise awareness that it is possible to take action through positive initiatives! In this way, we want to give this plastic a second life by avoiding the creation of new material.
A major challenge to take on
The new recycled plastic collection features 3 coffee table formats and 2 shelving formats. This project was born from a desire to go further in our eco-responsible approach. We want to show that it is possible to create objects from recycled plastic that are beautiful, timeless and durable. Our challenge was therefore to go beyond recycling by creating exceptional pieces that make you completely forget the material’s original purpose.
A sustainable collection
The challenge was to reverse the material’s original lifespan. We go from a product used for an extremely short, fleeting period (yogurt pots or packaging) to a high-quality, robust object. The tables and shelves in the collection stand the test of time and are designed to remain functional for generations.
The tabletops are 100% recycled, and also 100% recyclable. We transform an already existing raw material, which can itself be recycled again at the end of its life. It’s a circular approach and a virtuous cycle.
Controlled manufacturing
The tabletops in the collection are the result of an innovative manufacturing process. The collected plastic waste is reduced to flakes, then pressed (with no added binder) to form the tabletop. They are specifically designed to be paired with table legs or BRACKET wall mounts. The result is innovative pieces firmly focused on the future of furniture.
A high-quality material to care for
The tabletops in the collection are resistant to stains and moderate heat. Recycled plastic is a high-quality material that needs to be cared for. To preserve your table or shelf, simple maintenance with a soft damp cloth is enough. They are sensitive to certain chemicals such as solvents, nail polish removers, paint strippers, and strong detergents.
Each tabletop is unique; the color and patterns may vary, and that’s what gives this collection all its charm.
