Make way for Ana Popescu! This year, she is illustrating all our Christmas festivities, bringing TIPTOE gift objects to life in bright interiors. A lover of vibrant colours, simple forms and shadows that animate her spaces, Ana invites us to explore different ways of celebrating the end of the year and perfectly illustrates our Christmas motto: “Christmas is yours”. Can you introduce yourself?
Hello, my name is Ana! I grew up in Strasbourg, but I’ve lived in Vienna, Austria, since 2008. I studied printmaking and drawing at the University of Applied Arts. Since 2015, I’ve been working as an illustrator and artist in my studio.
How would you define your creative world?
I mainly work with colour, across every possible medium. I’m fascinated by plays of light, shapes and architecture. I mostly try to translate a feeling onto paper and work especially with details from scenes.
Where do you find inspiration every day?
Mainly by walking through the streets and looking around me. There are fascinating details everywhere: the sun hitting the roof of a house, the shadow of a tree.
How important is your interior to you? What does it say about you?
I still haven’t decided what direction my interior should take, so it’s quite eclectic, but I try to keep everything fairly understated so there is plenty of space. I generally spend my time in the dining room, which also serves as an office from time to time, so it’s the main room in my apartment. The rest is rather neglected.
What is your vision of TIPTOE?
TIPTOE pieces may appear simple, but I find there is a lot of love for detail and form. The materials are of very high quality and, honestly, I’d love to have every piece in my home!
What inspired you about the idea of incorporating our objects into your world?
I work a lot on all themes related to interiors, furniture and architecture, so working with TIPTOE and incorporating the different pieces into my world felt very natural. Furniture suggests someone’s presence, and it’s this connection between object and human that really interests me.
A recent creative discovery to share with us?
Illustrator Andrea Serio—I don’t have the words, I love all his work! And a place? Bitzinger, a typical Vienna sausage and beer kiosk, very friendly for having a drink while standing.
