TIPTOE x Lorraine Sorlet
To celebrate the arrival of summer, Lorraine Sorlet chose to revisit TIPTOE’s iconic stool, LOU. The young artist wanted to express herself through the theme of water, a soft and reassuring world she has loved exploring since her early days. By illustrating a peaceful swimmer immersed in a beautiful monochrome blue, Lorraine offers us a piece infused with softness and well-being for all our interiors.
Who is Lorraine Sorlet?
Lorraine Sorlet is a French illustrator based in Paris and a graduate of the Gobelins school. Through her minimalist drawings and paintings, she explores different representations of intimacy. Lorraine draws stories that speak to a wide audience: love, human relationships, affection; her creations blend tenderness and romance.
The Lorraine Sorlet x TIPTOE collaboration comes to life
Long-time admirers of the artist’s work and creative world, the TIPTOE designers wanted to collaborate with Lorraine and give her free rein to create a unique object. Drawing, design, color research and screen printing took more than a year to develop this brand-new monochrome LOU.
Tell us, Lorraine, why did you agree to this collaboration with TIPTOE?
“First of all, I’ve known and loved the TIPTOE brand for a long time, so I was really happy they contacted me! The brand’s clean, understated feel fits very well with my fairly minimalist world. I also really enjoy working with and promoting authentic French brands, so it made sense to work with the TIPTOE studio!”
What was the starting point for the “swimming pool” theme?
“Water is a world that appeals to me and that I have always loved painting. So it was only natural that I turned to this universe when I began the collaboration. I also felt that a woman floating in a pool, in all her simplicity and lightness, went very well with the LOU stool, which is itself very pared-back. I liked the idea of having an offbeat stool, an everyday object that manages to immerse us in a completely different world.”
Why did you choose the LOU stool to express yourself?
“The LOU stool was the ideal object for me. The round surface of its seat gave me a large area for expression and fits perfectly into all types of interiors and every room in the home. I find it quite fascinating to imagine one of my drawings on a 3D object that comes to life in space. I always draw on flat surfaces, so it allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and be even more creative”
A limited edition, hand-screen-printed
Artisanal printing
The choice to produce the seats using screen printing was obvious. It is a process that delivers a very high-quality finish, requires no specific maintenance and, above all, is highly durable over time. The colors were created in Hugues Palatnik’s screen-printing studio from a blend of pigments, then applied one by one to the surface to finally reveal the final design.
The TIPTOE x Lorraine Sorlet collaboration is available in a limited edition from July 6 on our website and in store!
Lorraine Sorlet will be at the new TIPTOE store located at 14 rue du Temple in Paris on the afternoon of July 9 to present the collection.
