We tell you everything about the design of our first lamp!
The NOD lamp, a 100% TIPTOE design
We are proud to present our first lamp after two years of development by our design studio. NOD features a simple, modern design that carries our DNA. Our aim was to design an object that is simple, beautiful, functional, and familiar in form. Mission accomplished! NOD fits easily into any interior and every room of the home. Why NOD? It means a “nod,” a wink to its articulated head, which can pivot up to 35 degrees on each side. It comes in two versions: freestanding or clamp-mounted, in reference to our iconic table leg.
Why did you choose to create a lamp?
It is an essential part of spatial design, playing a key role in shaping the character of a place. By creating an object that diffuses light, we wanted to take our thinking further on how we live in and inhabit spaces. The NOD lamp brings a new dimension to the brand. Taking on the design of a small object, one that is more electrical, was also a new challenge for us!
How did you approach its design and use?
As always, it was important to us to create a simple, functional, well-made object in Europe. The aesthetic absolutely had to be timeless, in a category of objects that is particularly sensitive to trends. Despite its small size, we wanted its functionality to be maximized, with several rotation directions to direct the light wherever desired and the ability to vary the intensity according to the user’s needs.
Which materials did you choose?
The NOD lamp is made of aluminum with a powder-coated finish. Its head houses the components and the joint. This helps preserve its clean, essential silhouette. To soften the light and create a pleasant, comfortable atmosphere, an opal polycarbonate diffuser is injected beneath the head, concealing the LEDs. Thanks to them, the NOD lamp has low energy consumption. Its A++ / A+ / A energy rating places the lamp among the most energy-efficient appliances!
What was the biggest challenge in its design?
The NOD lamp is manufactured and assembled in Portugal. In this product category, European industrial capabilities are very limited. The vast majority of lighting on the market is made in Asia. This therefore significantly increased the development time and complexity involved in creating this product!
How would you describe this lamp?
It is a useful yet minimalist object, elegant yet understated.
