Since 2015, TIPTOE has made it its mission to create sustainable furniture that is thoughtfully designed and well made, 100% in Europe.
Over the years, the negative impact of plastic waste on the environment has become increasingly clear. While 400 million tons of plastic are produced worldwide every year, the OECD estimates that only 9% of plastic waste produced between 1950 and 2015 has been recycled.
Beyond creating durable, timeless objects, our purpose drives us to fully integrate the use of recycled or recovered materials at the heart of the design of our objects and manufacturing processes. The SSDr chair aims to prove that it is possible to give waste a second life to create beautiful and useful objects.
Simple, solid, durable and recycled
The SSDr chair is a Simple, Solid, Durable and Recycled chair.
It is the result of a long and ambitious year-and-a-half process to create a beautiful, useful and durable object in an industry that overwhelmingly uses virgin plastic. The SSDr chair marks a new milestone in our ambition to create sustainable furniture.
In this version of the SSD chair, the seat and backrest are not made of wood but of recycled PP plastic. PP, or polypropylene, is a plastic used in a wide range of industrial applications: food containers, automotive parts and household appliances. The legs of SSDr are made of steel (infinitely recyclable, it is the most recycled material in the world).
SSDr, the logical next step after the SSD chair
In 2019, our crowdfunding campaign enabled us to fund the first production run of the SSD chair: Simple, Solid and Durable. From that campaign onward, our plan was to develop a recycled plastic version of the SSD chair.
After a year and a half of work, research and significant investment to make its production possible, we are very proud to introduce the SSDr chair! While it retains the same features, the same comfort and the same lines as the SSD chair, the SSDr chair is made from a material sourced directly from recovery: recycled PP plastic, which combines flexibility and strength.
